“Humanity has been around for at least 5,000 years…” This was a statement made by the late- supreme court justice Antonin Scalia when he gave the commencement address at his granddaughters graduation. This was said in the context that challenges today are much the same as they were at that time in history. This was a strong indication that Justice Scalia believed in the Genesis account of literal creation.
A writer for The Daily KOS wrote, “So why that specific number, 5,000? It just so happens to be right around what those who take a literal view of the creation story in Genesis believe the age of the earth to be.”
So, here we had a man of high intelligence and held in high regard. He made decisions affecting the lives of all Americans. He believed in a young earth created by God (Genesis 1:1). That would also have to mean that he believed that God created man, as opposed to evolving over millions of years. Genesis 2: 7 says, “Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living being.
In making the statement that he did, Scalia took a stand against evolution. In doing so he also made a bold statement showing that creationism is not just for the religious zealots. There are many scientists who believe in creationism. There is also a good amount of evidence for it. There are too many articles for which to provide links. Just google, “secular scientists who believe in creationism,” or “evidences for a young earth.”
Is God still creating unique individuals? It says in Psalm 139: 13-16 that God formed your inward parts, and wove you in your mother’s womb. You are wonderfully made. Your frame was not hidden from God, but skillfully wrought. God saw your unformed substance.
Verse 16 also says that your days were ordained for you, “when as yet there was not one of them.” As a creation of God what are you doing with your life? Are you making the most of it and redeeming your time while on earth? God has also given you a spiritual gift to be used in a unique way to bring others into his Kingdom. Have you identified yours? If you are a millenial, you still have a long life ahead of you. Put to good use the person God created you to be.
