According to various news reports, Hillary Clinton’s pastor wrote her a letter the day after the election. In it he compared her loss to the death of Jesus on the cross. Well, folks, there really is no comparison! In fact, it is almost like blasphemy to make such a comparison. Let’s consider the facts as recorded in the Gospels.
Here is what happened leading up to and including the crucifixion:
Jesus Christ was “stripped” and had a “crown of thorns” placed upon his head. He was “mocked…spat on…and beaten” (Matthew 27: 28-31, Mark 15: 17-20). When Jesus was crucified he had nails driven into his hands. Yes, they used nails. Not only is this recorded in the Gospels, but when Jesus appeared to his disciples after his resurrection, he pointed out the nail prints in his hands.
During the crucifixion darkness prevailed in the middle of the day, and “the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom, and the earth shook and the rocks were split, and the tombs were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after His resurrection they entered the holy city and appeared to many” (Matthew 27:45-53).
Why did Jesus have to die? The answer is found in John 19:7. According to Jewish law, he had to die “because He made Himself out to be the Son of God.”
Now I ask you, readers, how in the world can Hillary Clinton’s loss be compared to this? It can’t! Jesus died for the sins of the whole world, for your sins and mine. We are all sinners in need of a savior. Then Jesus rose from the dead, the only religious leader to have ever done that. If you have not yet invited Jesus Christ, the Son of God in human flesh, to be your savior, consider doing that now. All the sins of your past will be forgiven, and you will experience a new hope and purpose to your life.
