When Billy Graham passed away his body was lying in state in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. Christian recording artist, Michael W. Smith, sang a song called, “Just As I Am.” This is the same song sung at the end of every crusade that Rev.Billy Graham conducted. The message of this song is that God accepts each and every person just as he or she is. You might be broken inside. You may have been through a horrible past. Perhaps you have even committed some terrible crime.
Perhaps you consider yourself a good person and have never done anything that the world would call bad. But all of us sin. Sin is the tendency to do or say wrong things, or to think wrong thoughts. People have wrong motives and intentions. Sin is living apart from God and his ways. It is wanting nothing to do with him. So, even the nicest person alive still sins. People need changed hearts.
The message that Billy Graham preached all around the world is that anyone, regardless of their past, their hurts, the dirt in their lives, or their brokenness, can come to God, who loves each one. God is in the business of transforming lives. He accepts everyone just as they are, but will not leave them that way. But people first have to acknowledge their need for God. Many people are living with no hope today. Suicides are at an all-time high. Some people see no reason to live. Others are lonely and depressed.
If you are reading this, and something I have written above describes you, you can make the song, “Just As I Am,” your song. No person is too good to not need God’s grace, nor is any person so bad as to be undeserving of it. Come to God just as you are. He loves you. If you sense a need for him in your life, give him a chance to remake your life. This is not religion I am talking about. It is a relationship with a living God. It is acknowledging who Jesus is. He is God in human flesh who came to die on a cross for the sins of each individual person. Three days later he rose from the dead. Millions of people all over the world down through centuries of time have made the decision to come to Christ just as they are. You can be one of them. Let the song “Just As I Am” become your song right now. Just google the title and give it a listen.
